Computer Automatically Goes To Sleep

Hi,

Before installing Norton's Internet Security program, my computer had a set timer to fall asleep (after being idle for a period of time).  I'm not sure if it's the NIS program that I downloaded that's causing it, but now my computer goes to sleep within 5 minutes of being idle.

Skimmed through the NIS program to see if there was an option that is causing my computer to go to sleep, but I couldn't find anything.

Can anyone help me out? I attached a picture to show what my power settings on my computer is.

As you can see, my computer shouldn't be going to sleep until an hour of idle time has passed.

Hi kesoops

Are you connected to mains power can you turn the computer off.

Turn off the switch on the wall unplug the socket from the wall.

Unplug the cable from the box the cable the side the mains power comes from will come out

Then unplug from the computer,

Then re-plug into box and plug into the wall and make sure the socket in the wall is switched on, do not plug into the computer yet remove the battery from the computer and then plug the cable into the computer and if you don’t get a power light on the computer it may mean the fuse has popped or the box(transformer) has a problem.

If you don’t know how to change a fuse then ask someone who does and there is a number with AMP after it on the fuse do not put a higher or lower number back in, it has to be the same number which is the size of the fuse.  Putting a larger number in can cause a fire.

If you have mains power try the below.

Try setting the power plan to a different setting.

Balanced

Power saver

High performance

And change,

Turn off the display, to one minute.

Put the computer to sleep, to two minutes.

Save changes, then restart the computer and check if it does this then set

Put the computer to sleep, to ten minutes.

Save changes and check what the computer does

And please repost with the results.

Sometimes things get stuck so moving the settings around may help?

Thanks for the response.

I decided to try this (before reading your post):

I went to the advanced power options and under the "what to do when lid is closed" section, I put "do nothing."

(Side: I use a laptop, not a desktop).

Anyway, now my laptop lid is closed when I'm on my computer and it doesn't go to sleep in 5 minutes.

Maybe, like you said, something got stuck. I just changed settings and it worked.

If I probably go back to opening my lid, it'll probably not go to sleep in 5 minutes.
