Computer Freezes After LiveUpdate and Scan - Norton Internet Security 2010

Hello,

I have been having an intermitient problem.  Twice now since installing Norton Internet Security 2010 on my Windows Vista 64bit PC, after I run a live update and a quick scan, when I go to click on my Windows start button, my computer freezes completely for a few moments then I get it back and everyting works fine.  I mean everything stops.  My mouse is unsuable for that short duration.

When I first installed NIS2010 I experienced several freezes when running applications and just using my OS.  I contacted Norton support and had my firewall settings reset to "allow" my applications.   Since then I have not had any serious freezes except for the one above.

Has anyone else had this problem?  Any suggestions for a fix?

Incase it helps here is what happens before the freeze up:

I start my PC and Windows Vista loads.

I wait for NIS2010 to load into my system tray.

I run LiveUpate, wait for my updates to download and install.

I view my updates and then close the LiveUpdate window.

I run a quickscan.  Usually several tracking cookies are removed.  I close the quickscan window.

I go to click on the Vista start button.

That's when my mouse freezes and I can do nothing for several seconds.

Could this have anything to do with removing tracking cookies or installing updates?

I am running a Dell Studio XPS 435T with an i7 processor and 6GB of RAM, and Windows Vista 64bit SP2.

I also want to point out that I have also had a tiny problem with my mouse hiccuping while waiting for two applications to startup.  This happens rarely as well and occcured in the same startup sequence, but after clicking on the Vista Start button and running a couple of applications.

Thanks,

Michael R

Hi Michael

If you have both automatic live updates and idle scans on, your computer will do those tasks rather quickly on it's own. It's one of the beauties of the program to have these features turned on to automatic so these functions happen all the time and you will be continuously protected with the most up to date definitions.

Hello,

Thanks for your replies.  I just had the same freeze problem under the same circumstances again just now.  I will let Norton automatically update it's self and (I assume it does) run a quick scan soon after in the background.  I hope this works just letting it do it's thing.  I will reply soon and let the forum know what happens.  Also, I went to the about menu in NIS2010 and found I do have the latest version.

Hello,

It's been quite awhile now and I have been leaving Norton Internet Security 2010 alone to operate in the background.  So far no freezes of any kind.  I have hopes now this problem is solved.
