Computer Hijacked maybe?

Three days ago, I clicked on an old Hewlett Packard Solutions icon, and my desktop went crazy.  It churned in a manner that would suggest that everything on the hard drive might be changing.  I now get a pop-up warning message for each web site that I try to visit saying that there is an error or problem with the site's security certificate.  I ran a system scan with my Norton 360 program, and it did not indicate any problems.

Any ideas out there regarding what has happened and any possible fixes?  My desktop is ready to be replaced (eight years old), and it is equipped with Windows XP, but there a few things on the hard drive that I would like to transfer if it can be done without infecting a new computer.

Thanks,

Hi Kelly902,

Clicking that old icon may have caused a temporal distortion - check your system date to make sure it is correct.  Website certificates are time sensitive and if your system time is not correct your browser will start throwing alerts about them being expired, even though the certificates are actually still current and valid.

Thanks.  I will check the date.

Thanks!!  The suggestion to check the system time was right on target.  Not only was the time of day off 15 hours---the year displayed was off by almost 8 years.

Correcting this got rid of the popup security certificate error warnings that I was getting at each website that I visited.
