Maybe I don't totally understand the function of ESR or someone else is missing what I feel is a big drawback to using ESR.
Besides the fact that ESR is meant for organizations to use in lieu of individuals, I have just read the following on this link:
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/
"Users who want to get the latest features, performance enhancements and technologies in their browsing experience should download Firefox for personal use, as these improvements will only be available to ESR users several development cycles after being made available in Firefox for desktop". Bold is my editing.
I continue to be reminded by some users of the security improvements in FF41 over FF 40, but am I incorrect in thinking that since the ESR will only have the improvements available several development cycles after being made avail to the desktop individual versions?
That same list of FAQ's also states:
"Releases will be maintained for approximately one year, with point releases containing security updates coinciding with regular Firefox releases."
Now it sounds like the ESR does in fact receives updates on "as regular basis as individual FF".
"Maintenance of each ESR, through point releases, is limited to high-risk/high-impact security vulnerabilities and in rare cases may also include off-schedule releases that address live security vulnerabilities. Backports of any functional enhancements and/or stability fixes are not in scope."
Now that definitely makes me wonder if the ESR's are as up to date in regards to the security updates that V 41 has? I notice it says high-risk/high impact security vulnerabilities - what is considered high-risk? I certainly do not know, but it got me to thinking that the FAQ's really sound like the absolutely maybe type of posts Tony makes when he is trying to be sneaky coy.
So can someone straighten me out - hopefully someone from Norton will respond also.
