Configuration issue on Norton Internet Security

I have a SOHO LAN running over a 4-port Ambit router.  My primary PC is Vista Home Premium which came with NIS installed by default.  My other machines are a Dell T-100 running 2008 Server and a Dell D610 running XP Pro.  I connect the laptop, my work machine, for afterhours calls either directly to the router with a patch cable or using wireless.  The only way I can successfully ping the Vista box is to disable NIS.  As it currently is I get 4 'General failure' replies when I try to hit the Vista box from the laptop or server.  When I turn off NIS, the machines talk without any problems.

All I am doing is SQL Server named pipes, http, https, ssl, ftp and Kereberos.  I occassionally have to do file sharing to a shared directory from my NAS mapped to the Vista box.  How would I configure the NIS so I can see the shared drives on the Vista box from the laptop and the server?  Also, can I pinhole additional application ports within NIS?

On the Vista machine, I went to the NIS | Settings | Additional Options | Internet Security and Firewall Options, then checked the Personal Firewalls | Trust Control tab.  I set the network status under the Trust tab to ‘Allow all network activity on this network’ for the MAC listed on the NIC.  I double checked with arp -a because it had a stale MAC…probably my previous router.   (I deleted the other entry just to be sure.)  After an ‘Apply’, pinging the laptop gave me 4 ‘Request timed out.’ replies.  I can ping the router without any problems.  No LAN-based PC’s are seen though.  Do I need to configure private routes or anything like that?  I tried adding and removing the MAC address to the Trust and Restrict list to see if it made any difference on pinging the laptop IP and it gave the same response in each configuration.

Not in the seittings! There's a link on the main panel:

- In 2008 under the main logo click on the view button.

In 2009 under the internet section click on the View Home Network link/button.

A pop-up will load: in there edit the other computers to be fully trusted, and by the network details click on the edit link, and set it to fully trusted too.
