XP Pro, NIS 21.3.0.12
I want to stop NIS from continuously updating itself. I have turned automatic off but can't find anywhere to set when and where it will do updates and how it will do them.
I have used NIS for years on XP Pro systems and always had it scan once a day in the middle of the night and for it to check for updates and ask me if I wanted to install them. I would install them when asked. In some cases I could update only virus signatures automatically and I would allow that. But all those settings are gone or obscured from me now...
Now it has all these modes that can simply only be turned on or off and that's it.
I control about 10 installations of NIS on the computers of friends, neighbors, and family and all have NIS installed. But if Symantec seems to be trying to drive me away...
I have one XP system that is running so slow that it take about one minute get email downloads.
Right now I have Sonar turned off in an attempt to speed up processing and have to live with an bit red "X" and constant error messages and prompts to fix it.
In the task manager I see two instances of nis.exe running and they seem to be using way too much memory and CPU time. I would like to simplyfy my NIS install to speed things up.
Is there a summary of setting options and the consequences of them for XP anywhere?
