I am now working with a "dual boot" environment on my home network. When everything was Windows based I was kinda sorta able to use NIS backups, but I'm opting for "Open Source UNIX based" file system backups and emergency restore procedures now. I have installed a third party software that works under both Windows and most flavors of UNIX, and am starting to have "issues" with NIS which is "blocking" some program access when I try to run backups and verify them. I need a way to configure NIS so that it too can be backed up and restored via an "image backup" in case of a disaster. Are there folks out there doing things like this, or do I need to scrap NIS so that it does not interfere? (The logs indicate that while I was backing up and verifying Norton was blocking things and generating warnings)
