My old Win XP SP3 17" laptop machine has given-up, I think. After 10-years. (Pretty danged good computer, to have lasted that long. No major problems. Toshiba Satellite P25-S526.)
Won't start in Normal Mode. (I've tried everthing I can think of to fix it... but no luck.) It will start in Safe Mode, though. Currenlty I'm doing that with Networking -- so at least I can do email, and some Web stuff, until I can find the time to get a new computer.
Yet...in looking at past posts on this Board, some people say NIS still protects you in Safe Mode...and some say it doesn't.
In the Safe Mode I'm using here, I don't ever see any HDD activity like I used to see in XP Normal Mode, when NIS would do LUs, etc. So...I gotta wonder -- am I taking a big risk by doing Safe Mode with Networking??
