Hello,
I admit I am by no means a guru in the IT department, but I have been around a while. I have experienced something that has me equally concerned and baffled. I was on a trusted site in Firefox and simply reading the news. Then a popup from the system tray told me that Symantec (Internet Security) found two instances of Hacktool (not Hacktool.Rootkit). It further indicated it tried to remove them, but could not because they were unidentified files. So, for a lark, I hit the "Fix" button, and it took away one of them.
After a bit of reading, I followed the instruction to do a full scan in Safe Mode (Vista Ultimate), which I did and it found "nothing". Again it the popup showed me the same message, and this time I clicked the "Help" button on the side of the "Fix" button. The message disappeared and that was that. ????????
I ran another full scan and it found nothing.
So, now I am left in limbo, not knowing if it is a registry error of some kind, an anomaly in IS, or a real problem. Can anyone give me a clue on this issue?
Thanks in advance,
Jake
