When I check history, I'm seeing a message "Connected to a Shared Network. (## ## #x xx #x). The ##... is "close" to the address I have when I check my router, but not exact. The last character on the physicall address in the message is "D" but when I check the router, it says it "E".
Do I need to be concerned I'm connected to another network somewhere.
I clicked on remove trust and restrict buttons, and since then, I've received a similar message except it says "Connected to a Protected Network". And now every minute there is an additional message "Rule "Default Block UPnP Discovery" Stealthed 192.168.1.1 Port ssdp (1900). Inbound UDP packet."
It seems to be my network, but only started seeing this message in the past 2 weeks and as noted above, the last letter in the physical address is different.
I've read boards on both messages above, but cannot determine if I have an issue or not. Assitance/ideas appreciated.
thank you for your response - I actually found this afternoon that the MAC address on the router is one letter off, but when I clicked on the local network link, they matched perfectly.
I was just concerned because I had not scene the "connected to shared network" message before and now it seems to pop-up each time I start up the machine (or go from sleep mode to active).
It also lists an additinoal message - "Connected to shared network" 127.0.0.0/255.0.0.0. I read some posts on this and it seems this is a local loopback. So - is this again nothing to be concerned with?
Yes the loopback connection is also a standard and necessary computer function which you should always expect to see. Nothing that you have found is out of the ordinary. Since you are behind a router which protects your computer from directly facing the internet, the connections in the Norton firewall history log should be local and any blocked traffic should be coming from devices on your own local network. The router stops unsolicited traffic from the internet from getting through to your PC, so the Norton Firewall doesn't see much in the way of unauthorized incoming communications. Norton's main job in this situation is to keep an eye on outgoing traffic from your PC to make sure it is not the result of something malicious on your computer trying to phone home, or sending out spam. Norton will alert you if it should ever spot anything suspicious going on with your network traffic.
