I am having connection blocking and application blocking problems similar to those described in the locked thread 'firewall-reporting-random-files-trying-access-internet'. That thread gave no resolution to the problems. I am getting the allow/block pop-ups for connection attempts associated with tiff/jpg files and the remote IP address 143.127.102.125. Doing a whois on that IP address shows it to belong to Symantec. This problem first started out with a remote connection attempts from 143.127.102.125:80 to my Mac on port 55706, 55810, 58006, and 58032. These attempts occurred between 3:30AM-4:34AM in the morning when I was not logged on to my Mac. Norton Firewall automatically blocked the attempts. At 9:33AM there is an entry in the Application Blocking log showing an outgoing attempt from MergeUIPresentationChange.tiff that was blocked. When I logged on to my Mac in the afternoon and used Safari I got a connection blocking pop-up asking to allow/block an outgoing attempt from MergeUIPresentationChange.tiff to 143.127.102.125:80. As it was strange that a tiff file that is part of the Microsoft Powerpoint app could behave like a program and attempt communication I clicked on block. During the time I've been logged on, I've gotten 51 and counting connection blocking pop-ups requesting allow/block for the MergeUIPresentationChange.tiff file whenever the IP address 143.127.102.125 is referenced in some way. When I did a WHOIS, PING, and TRACEROUTE on that IP address I got the connection blocking pop-up. The other times I got the pop-ups occurred when using Outlook and Safari. There is also a single entry in the application blocking log for a JPG file that was denied. This is happening with Norton Internet Security for Mac version 5.7 and LiveUpdate was run today. My Mac is OS X (Mavericks) version 10.9.5 and is current for Mavericks. How do I fix this problem? What additional information is needed from me if any? Thanks.
