First noticed on 11/23/16: Norton ConnectSafe is blocking access to legitimate websites, with this message:
Malicious website blocked!
urldefense.proofpoint.com
This website may be dangerous, and it is recommended that you do not continue. For your protection, this site has been blocked.
This detailed report explains the security risks on this site.
Both Disney and my healthcare provider (and other websites I access) use proofpoint.com intermediate URLs as links in email messages. So, at this moment, I cannot easily access the pages linked to in legitimate email messages.
Here is the Disney URL that leads to the ConnectSafe warning page:
I will ask the Safe Web Team to re-evaluate the 2 sites that you have mentioned.. Please stay tuned to this thread for a response from the Safe Web Team on Wed. night after midnight EST.
There have been several. The most annoying is https://secure.wavecable.com/iam/iam/registerProcess and all subsequent urls as I go down in the site to logon and look at my data usage. Another is allblacks.com, which is the home page of the New Zealand national rugby team. Since I am an ardent supporter of them, I have been visiting it regularly. I can't remember the rest. These are the most important two to me.
Thank you for trying to assist me. As I stated in my rant, I have been with Norton for a lot of years, but have grown very dissatisfied with the service and support (lack thereof). I bought a two year renewal last time which doesn't expire for 243 days. I will be looking at other options at that time.
If you give me a list of sites which you think are having an issue with their evaluations. I can try and see if I can get them checked out by Safe Web.
I'm having the same problem with safe websites, e.g., my ISP Internet Account Manager. It does it Unsafe thing through all levels. It's very frustrating as I check my data usage frequently as I have Roku on two TVs and my PC. I have continuously reported the URLs as safe, but nothing seems to clear it up. More and more, I am becoming so frustrated with Symantec and Norton. They never seem to listen to user feed back. No full resolution of Firefox, so I have to use Chrome ( wouldn't use IE on a bet). The Network Map issue has never to my knowledge been addressed as to why it disappeared and why they can't bring it back. I've been a user since Norton Utilities for CP/M (yes, I am old and crotchety), and I am about to give up on Norton/Symantec.
A blockage from ConnectSafe says ConnectSafe on it. If you look at the blockage that was there, you would see a link on the blockage page that says something like view report. That may not be the exact wording. When you do look at the Report, it very clearly says Safe Web on it. The Report page also lists the malware found on the site which was clearly things that were malicious.
ConnectSafe gets it's information about malicious sites from Safe Web. Regardless of which service does the blocking, it's actually cleared up by Safe Web.
Thanks for everyone's comments. To let you know, I tried the links from the Disney and health care provider email messages this morning. Both now work, and arrive at the intended web pages. Problem resolved - but I don't know if Norton or Proofpoint fixed it.
The report from the blocked page said Norton Safe Web on it. It did not say ConnectSafe on the blockage page. I do know a Norton Safe Web report when I see one.
The OP clearly states ConnectSafe, and I was replying to 20750065, but since you raise the question about page block notification: Do you use ConnectSafe? Is the ConnectSafe page block report somehow different than the SafeWeb report?
The report from the blocked page said Norton Safe Web on it. It did not say ConnectSafe on the blockage page. I do know a Norton Safe Web report when I see one.
What is the report you see for your healthcare provider? You should not be clicking on url's from emails. It is much safer to copy the link in the email and paste it into your browser. I can ask the Safe Web Team to look into the Disney linkage you have reported. Please stay tuned to this thread for a report back from the Safe Web Team on Thursday night after midnight EST.
1st, "Norton ConnectSafe" MAY BE incorrect. It's Norton Safe Web. Feel free to correct this... I will update this ASAP.
