My product has been working fine but when I restarted this morning it came up in sidebar with a red "At Risk" notification. When I checked this concerns my Backup service. It tells me I have to login into my account to reactivate. When I do that and click "Next" the dialogue box just closes and the red "At Risk"stripe remains. When I open Norton 360 Tasks and select something like "Maintain Backup sets" nothing happens.
I went through the automated support procedure as far downloading Norton Power Erase and remote scanning the suspicous files it found. Nothing known was found.
Advice appreciated. I would like to have my Backup restored to me!

No, Backup is enabled. When I try to Manage my Backup sets nothing happens. When I tried to Fix in that Dialogue Box I got first time a message to the effect that Backup could be initialised at this time and the seconfd time I got the same ineffectual box I got from Sidebar.

Quick question if I my jump in here: How are you accessing Manage my Backup? From the main N 360 page or via Settings > Backup Settings > Manage BackupConfigure? I take that comment also to mean that the Backup Set: Default Set page does not appear? No Summary/What/Where?When Tabs?? Have you tried to access it both ways? Is either or both ways grayed out?

Don;t know if this will help narrow the problem down or not, but have you tried to create a new BackupSet and see if the Manage my Backup appears then?
OK, given that, I think you need to remove your Norton product and reinstall it. Security software's interaction with your Operating System and with other, third-party software is complex, and occasionally a modification gets made to somebody else's program that scrambles something in your Norton. This seems to be what has happened here.
Before uninstalling your computer's protection, I generally recommend downloading and running the free version of malwarebytes, which does only on-demand scanning and thus will not conflict with your Norton product. This also makes it a good thing to keep on hand for times like this when you might like to have a crosscheck for Norton. Assuming malwarrebytes gives you a clean bill of health, you're ready to proceed with the removal process.
You will not have to pay for the program again, and your subscription days will automatically be recognized when you reinstall this way. Here are the step-by-step instructions:
Export your Identity Safe cards/credentials to your desktop if you've set these up, so you'll be able to import them back in when your clean install is complete.
Make sure that you have set up (and can still access) your Norton Account, and that your current Norton 360 subscription is showing under the "Products" tab, with a big yellow "Download" button at right; this is how you will reinstall your Norton product and have it linked automatically to your subscription.
From Windows Control Panel, use the Add/Remove Programs function to uninstall your Norton 360. This will disconnect all your critical system drivers from your security product so they aren't deleted by the next step. Be sure to take advantage of any opportunity you're given to save your Norton settings so they can be reloaded by Norton 360 when you reinstall it later in the process. Reboot your computer when this is complete.
Download and run the Norton Removal Toolto ensure a complete uninstall of your existing Norton product. This is necessary because of the extent to which a security package needs to have its tendrils deeply intertwined throughout the Operating System to do its job, and will clean up debris Windows leaves behind that may interfere with proper operation of your Norton product.
Once the Norton Removal Tool has finished, reboot your computer again, and immediately log back into your Norton Account and click that big yellow Download button. Remember, until you do this, you are temporarily without your Norton protection.
This last step will reinstall Norton 360 and link it automatically to your existing subscription. You should now be back in business, protected by "the speed and power of Norton!"
Please let us know how this works out. We're here to support you until you can click that "Accept as Solution" button!
DistEd2: thank you for this. It was very clear. I went through it all and it worked fine and I lost the red stripe.
But I found my Backup still wasn't activated and Manage Backup Sets still didn't do anything. Then I discovered if I clicked the Deactivate Backup or something like that (I can't remember and I can't find the button now) I could then Manage Backou sets but what I can't do is back them up online it seems. I'm just not given that option. Just various hard disks on my drive. I can't remember what I did originally to get this.
1.How do I get them on line on-line again please
2.and above all please please please how do I stop Norton 360 backing up these files to other disks because I can't find a way of stopping that now and I absolutely do not want this. I can't find a way of shutting it down now.
I am very frustrated about this. I want to get back to my work without all this hassle. If I really can't get the online storage now I paid for as part of my purchase and was receiving for a while please tell me clearly and definitively how i can decativate this Backup facility which just isn't doing I want it to do, which is simply to back online as secure storage away from my physical site.
It sounds like the problem is that you've lost access to your online storage space; perhaps your account has been hacked. I would recommend, at this point, that you contact Norton's Live Chat folks, where a real Symantec employee with access to your account information should be able to help you regain control over the backup space associated with your subscription--probably in a matter of minutes.
Let us know how this works, and if necessary we can then look at deactivating the feature.
I've now found how to deactivate Backup. You can only do it from View Details. That doesn't strike me as very transparent but let it pass.
Backing up to a hard disk in my computer is both pointless and a nuisance as I alrady have a dedicated hard disk to back up to running under rather more sophisticated and flexible software than Norton offers. What I want here is online off-site storage of my most sensitive files for peace of mind.
I shall try the chat feature you mention and report back.
At 05:30 British time, corresponding to 21:30 Los Angeles time I waited patiently half an hour amd more without proceeding beyond position 7 in the queue. I will try again closer to 02:00 Los Angeles time.
Cheers Yank. In fact the problem seemed to be, if that's possible, that it was displaying I need to reactivate when in fact my I was activated. When I clicked "Deactivate" (or such like link in View Details) it deactivated me and then I was able to activate again. But as I have posted I have lost my online storage.
Thanks Sheen. But the problem is that the backup destination I want, on-line storage, doesn't seem to be available any longer when I select the "Where" tab. I can go into my account and select on-line storrage to look at what I've, even reactivate it from those screens, and I see have used 4.7 of my 5 Gb account, but there seems to be no way of editing my folders or dealing with it in any way. It's extremely frustrating. This was my choice for an off-site backup of my most sensitive files should a fire or some disaster affect my site. Nor can I get a "chat " represenatative for love or money. Is therew an email supposrt service I can use?
