Since May I have had a problem with Norton virtually every time I have accessed our computer. I have solved some by using the intelligent updater to update virus definitions but I am now getting different error messages e.g. 3042,1 - 3040,20001 and 8920,208. The solution for the last is to remove (and re-install) Norton internet security by downloading the removal tool and given the number of problems this seems my best route. Unfortunately whichever way I try and access it the download for the removal tool is not working or at least the page cannot be displayed. I am using windows XP and whilst I started using Norton in 2006 my registration is showing as July 2010 and the system does seem to have been updated to the 2011 version. I do not know what to try next does anyone have any ideas please? Thank you
As Delphinium suggests, a complete clean up and reinstall may be the best thing but I'd like to add a note about a new tool that Norton have just brought in that combines the removal and the reinstall into one operation:
Here is a link to the new Norton Remove & Reinstall tool that, like the older Norton Removal Tool removes most Norton Products from your system, but the newer tool uninstalls the Norton products from your computer and reinstalls the latest version of your Norton security product.
If you already have the latest version of Norton AntiVirus, Norton Internet Security, or Norton 360, the Norton Remove & Reinstall tool reinstalls the same version of the Norton security product on your computer.
Note that it does not reinstall other Norton products you may have installed -- that you have to do manually and we can point you to the download point for the current versions.
