I am facing continuous problems with Live Update function with my Norton 360 Premier Edition. I have tried various options suggested here or elsewhere, but nothing worked to my full satisfaction:
- checking the date/time (everything is ok)
- reinstalling the Norton antivirus - this helps only partially - if I run Live Update manually after reinstallation, it gets updated, but next day the update (either automatic or manual) is unsuccesfull (download is ok, but installation fails to be completed) - tried several times
- checking the live update several times to avoid server or connection problems - done many times during one or two days with the same result
It seems that if I download definitions (.exe) file manually (intelligent updater), it will update the product, but in case the Live Update is run again, it again fails?
What is the problem? I have never experienced this before (using the Norton for already 3 years), these problems started around 2-3 weeks ago. I tried also to get away from any residues from older programs to avoid potential clash, but it seems that the problem is the update function, no difference if performed manually or automatically. It is becoming a bit annoying, as I expect a functional and user friendly product...
yes, I came to the same idea that the computer can be already infected. In fact, I had a problem with Delta searchbar being installed on my browser by mistake few weeks ago. When I tried to remowe it, I tried several antispyware and antimalware programs. Finally I returned my browsers to initial settings (as suggested in one of the forums) which caused that Delta disappeared. However, thefact is that this was actually the start of the problems.
I thought that the problem could be the clash of the software with Norton, which I tried to solve by removing the software I have downloaded and reinstalling Norton. But it did not help. I even tried reinstallation from the Norton web, to avoid using files from my computer.
However, scanning the computer with malwarebytes, superantispyware or spybot does not show any infection (only few tracking cookies).
So the problem could be that the computer is already infected?
I am not sure whether such a solution makes sense. As far as I understand, the antivirus should be updated regularly. Product that requires reinstallation every time the update is needed does not make sense to me and I assume that this was also not the intention of the producer...
It seems that in case I download definitions manually, the Norton gets updated, but anytime I either manually start Live update or it is started automatically, the result is exactly what is on your first picture.
No, I do not have a printer installed. No new hardware was installed around the time the problems started.
So far it seems to me that the problem is in the update proces. What seems to me strange is the fact that several people have experienced exactly the same issue... I am trying to figure out whether the problem is in my computer (infection) or in Norton or its update service (I would expect the fix from Norton team) or the problem is a clash with some other software that means that I should use a different antivirus. My friend was not able to successfully install and run Norton on his computer and is using a different antivirus software...
