I agree with you, it will save a lot of hassle then follow the step by step instructions Here.
Brian and Dave will get you through it but it is not for the faint hearted and it takes time.
If you do get the external drive create a folder (Backup 1) and then run G15 and tick the box "show hidden drives" highlight all the partitions you want to backup, browse to find the folder on the external drive and then select run.
Prepare your new SSD again by going to disk management and deleting the drive and then transfer the files onto the new SSD.
Don't forget to transfer the SRP first (the boot partition) which is active and then C: next and tick the appropriate boxes.
Edit: I would suggest a "One Time Backup"

Riiight, back to one of my original problems. I can’t see USB drives when booting off the ghost 15 program disk. Can I just plug two USB drives in to my system and transfer the image that way? This has truly become rediculious
Yes I followed the instructions, won’t boot needs repair? I don’t have windows disk and it seems Lenovo has somehow removed the ability to create a repair disk on their machines.

What sort of USB drives are they, adaptors, cases or factory built, if the drive is connected via an adaptor Ghost won't see it.
Are the drives connected directly to the pc and have you installed Ghost 15 on your existing HDD?
When you install Ghost on the computer if the USB drive is connected directly Ghost will see it.
Ask away however it seems to me that If Lenovo would provide a clean copy of windows unadulterated to their customers I would not be having all these problems I spent over a half hour on the phone with them today, they seem to have no idea what it takes to reload a machine nor care. They sent me two copies or their stupid recovery disks and do not seem to have a path to get a windows disk.
Repair disk created. Booted from it, ran repair. It was seeing the windows drive as D: the machine originally had a hidden boot-partiton drive which I restored as a separate drive-partition. It rebooted a couple of times and now seems as though everything works. It created an odd network drive H: pointing to my user home on the domain at work which was slowing down the open file function. I disconnected the drive mapping as I believe it to be unnessary. Guess we will find out Monday morning. Thanks

Well you know what the obvious recommendation is now, invest in a external drive, or as I do, a docking station (akasa - eSata and USB connection) and run a full backup as soon as possible.
That way you could use your existing HDD slip it in the D/S and use that as a data drive and backup destination drive.
My docking stations cost around £25.00 and was a very good investment, I have at least 7 spare HDDs (Sata2) I use for backup and data.
If you only have the O/S and applications etc on your primary drive it only takes Ghost about 10 minutes to backup and if necessary recover, with the SSD will be a lot quicker.
