Symantec made a decision to implement the fix for a publicly disclosed security vulnerability by requiring an update to the 22.7 versions of its product lines. All prior versions (e.g., 22.6 & 21.7) were left unpatched, vulnerable and unsafe for continued use. The ONLY recommended option was to upgrade to 22.7.0.x in order to receive the patch.
Although this course of action may have reduced Symantec's maintenance costs, it has now left many users victimized by recurring BSODs with no way forward and no way back.
Perhaps if Symantec had patched 22.6 and 21.7 this urgent problem that has caused a firestorm of customer discontent and defection to other security solutions could have been avoided.
Any comment on this, Symantec?
