Hey!
I am a kind of professional user (I mean not the typical average Joe) who tests antivirus softwares . So far I really like NIS 2009 , the whole 2009 conception , functions , etc . I've got a few concerns and questions and I would like some confirmation . I contacted One-click chat support from Symantec but they were too official and talked too generally (not technically) .
I've got a netbook and a seprate modem for mobile internet . I use internet and my netbook a lot . The mobile internet is pay-per-traffic service . What concerns me is the so called "Pulse updates" and the fact the program checks every few minutes for updates . I would like to know the average size of the traffic sent/received for the pulse updates and related stuff because if they are too often/big I think I might end-up with a huge bill for mobile internet (from my mobile 3G operator).
What if I disable Pulse-updates and leave LiveUpdate update every 8 hours ? How big the Live Updates generally are ? Does Norton get only the new one or re-downloads the whole pack each and everytime - complementary or semi-complementary updates ?
Disabling Norton toolbar and BHOs - Instead of using "Manage add-ons" in Internet Explorer , I can't use anything else to delete the reg keys/entries because of the self-protection ... Any comments are welcome...
What is Symantec's privacy policy - does it collect any personal information when the toolbar is enabld , the BHOs (Intr. Detection System for the browser) , does NIS collect any information when the SafeWeb is used/enabled , when performing Google search and it checks the results ?
One more thing - I am very please by Symantec Security Response . They are very accurate and pretty fast . However , this is most times . I always get automatic reply with case number but don't always receive human response that a file is a malware and that is has been added . The first time the files were just added (without human/developer response) with a pulse-update 6 hours after my initial submission (that is great!) . Next time , I got a reply from a developers that the files were clean and not malicious .
Why doesn't they responde to human submissions ?
Could you tell me a bit more about Norton Download Insight in v2010 ? Is it just for the downloads that pass through my browser or each and every download . What "In-the-cloud" technologies does Norton include ?
Thanks!
