CPU at 100% while using Chrome browser

For a few days whenever I use Chrome browser the CPU goes up to 95-100% and wont come down. This makes everything on my computer stop completely or lag significantly. This doesn't happen with other browsers like Opera and Firefox...

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Norton and shut down and restarted a dozen times but still have the same problem.

I don't know how to do any of this, so any help would be great

I fixed it.

I had the exact same issue. Then I uninstalled Chrome (Version 94) from Control Panel (and cleared all cache and history) and re-installed it (also Version 94) from chrome.google.com thru Firefox. That's it.

Everything is running fine now. Try it and see if this works for you.

Hello. The similar issue is also being discussed in this forums thread: https://community.norton.com/en/forums/norton-securitys-gone-crazy-hogging-cpu

Thank you peterweb,

I have followed these instructions to stop the Fast startup, and restarted both ways.

Unfortunately still having the same problem.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Norton and shut down and restarted a dozen times

If you are using the Shut Down command and you have the Windows Fast Startup feature enabled, you are not getting a full system shutdown required to fully update your software, including Norton and Chrome. If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Windows Fast Startup feature.. See more information here.
