Creating recovery disc with Norton Save & Restore 2.0

I have inserted the install disc into my DVD drive.  Started Norton, in File pull down selected Create Recovery Disc to start the wizard.  In Source Location window, typed in drive letter of my DVD drive.  Window appears 'Source Location'.  Navigate using Browse to my DVD drive.  Click on 'Next'.  Window appears 'Comparing drivers'.  This stops with the error:  Erro1\C950008:  Drive mining failed in C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\6fbcdc5d-f6ba-4e16-9767-fd8867a690c1\MinedDrivers.

How do I get around this error?  I'm running windowsXP SP3.

Thanks for the reply, but what is the 'standard SRD work'.  i'm using Norton Save & Restore 2.0 which I have bought.  Ghost 15 SRD. seems to be different software.

SRD  = Symantec Recovery Disc.

Norton Ghost 9

Norton Ghost 10

Norton Save and Restore 1

Norton Save and Restore 2

Norton Ghost 12

Norton Ghost 14

Norton Ghost 15

Norton Save and Restore was a different name given to Ghost. Thank goodness they went back to calling it Ghost.

The Ghost 15 SRD should work perfectly for S&R backups that have a v2i or iv2i extension.

Seems like I'm replying to this again.  I've downloaded trial version of Ghost15 which deletes Norton Save & Restore 2.0!!!  Still can't create a recovery disc.  Seems like I need Symantec Recovery Disc to do this.  The Norton Save & Restore 2.0 won't work.  How do I get a Ghost15 Symantec Recovery Disc with a trial system?

You can download the Ghost 15 recovery disk here

Many thanks for the comments.  I downloaded

Many thanks for the advise.  I downloaded NGH1501_AllWin_English_SrdOnly.iso & burnt to CD  I loaded the CD.  Then  followed the prompts  in Ghost15 to create a recovery disc.  All seemed to be going well until it asked me to key in a licence number.  I have a trial version of Ghost15.  I keyed in the licence number for my Norton Save & Restore 2.0, but this was rejected.  I don't have a license # for Ghost15.

In the meantime, I've received an email from Norton Support (it took them long enough to reply - I had given up on them) saying that Norton Save & Restore 2.0 was end of life & has been replaced by Norton 360.  Ghost15 wasn't mentioned.

Do I use Norton 360 or Ghost?

The support person you talked to was mistaken.  As Red pointed out, Save and Restore is Ghost with a different name.

Why do you need a custom recovery disk?

Have you tried the one from the download to see if it can access your drives?

Dave

That was a quick reply.   Not sure that I'm following your comments.  Are you saying that once I've blown the .iso to a CD, that I should try & boot from the CD (using whatever the function key is as the PC starts up) to see if I can see the drives on my PC?

Yes. The standard recovery disk works fine on most systems.

Only a small percentage of systems need additinal drivers added.

Boot your system with the recovery disk and then go to:

Analyze > Explore My Computer.

If you can browse your hard drive and the location of where you keep the image files then your good to go.

Dave

I've got my head around the instructions & I think that I'm ok now.  I booted with CD in the drive, Function 12 like crazy, got to the Ghost window & clicked on Analyse.  I could see my internal drive & also my external drive where my backups are.  Many thanks for your help & patience.
