Criteo

Criteo: I have a phone S4 Mini GT-19195 infected by an irritating persistent perpetual incoming e-mails. Try as I may this "Criteo" is impossible to delete. Please help, before I throw it over the hedge, it's infuriating.

I am running norton anti virus software on the device

Thanks very much for all your help hopefully, taking your advice, will clear the residue left by the uncontrolled Crideo add. I have in fact (I believe) stopped any renewal of the ads it now just sits there dormant

As this seems to be a PUA, Possibly Unwanted App, sometimes you need a second scanner that concentrates on that type of infection. Sometimes Norton is not as aggressive with this type of infection, because it does not damage your system, and sometimes users actually want the functions offered by the app.

As no single security product can protect from 100% of malware, I would suggest a second opinion scan, with the Malwarebytes app for Android from the Google Play Store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware

Hi peterweb

Thank you for your help.

Yes, you are correct in your assent, i.e. the problem is on my phone and Tablet, both android there is no sign of the problem on the PC Win10. using the same brozers

https://beep.gemini.yahoo.com is defiantly associated with this issue; there is no way to delete the bt.yahoo.mail. I have used Chrome and Internet Explorer

So to confirm. You are accessing the BT email using the browser on your phone? If you use a browser on your PC, you do not see this email?

What browser are you using on the phone and your PC? If you can, try to use the same browser on both. ie use Chrome or Firefox on both to see if you get the same email showing on both.

If you only see the pop up when you click on something connected to the email, I would suggest not clicking on anything there.

If it is showing in your BT email, maybe check with their support to see if others are seeing this email.

Thanks for your help: I did as you suggested, an on re start I had to reconnect to my Wi-Fi using my wireless key, so I felt that all had been deleted. However, I still have the swine. I noticed on a flash popup whilst toying with the swine. https://beep.gemini.yahoo.com     Nwith ow yahoo BT is the mail site. I am wondering whether I should delete every thing-associated yahoo. If it is Yahoo sending these adds they should be ashamed. The situation is not resolved

Try going to Android Settings - Apps, and look for your browser. Then clear the app data and restart the phone. See if this helps.

It doesn't appear on the PC only on the S4, http://www.criteo.com/deactivate-criteo-banners/ is the correct site I have followed their instruction for removal but without effect. The mail appears on the top, always, of the incoming list, and shows "learn more" and to the right where there is normally a square tick box there is this small doted circle with a dot in the centre, This is unique to this unwanted mail

On clicking "learn more" up comes an add, at the moment its Britannia Hotels

Above that advert, "our website is automatically set to allow Cookies as this insures the best possible experience.

Your use of our website without modifying your cookie settings means you consent to our cookies.

Now I keep modifying my Cookies without effect i.e. it still appears. I could be modifying the Cookies wrongly on the S4; maybe you could help with this, as I am a bit inexperienced to these Smartphone's.

Can you go to your BT mail account from a PC and just delete that email?

Who is listed as the sender of the email? See if you can go to the web site for whoever sent the email and look for a way to unsubscribe. Do not just click unsubscribe in the email, as that is often just a way of the sender knowing your email is valid.

Hi peterweb

Thank you for your response. I have tried your recommendations many times over the past weeks and it seems to make the situation worst. I find difficulty in fallowing exactly instruction because. they all seem to be written with a PC in mind. The difficulty I am having is on my Samsung Galaxy S4. (BT mail using Internet explorer) There is an e-mail embedded on the top of the incoming list and if I open it, it will start issuing ads for Hotels for example. I could just leave it there but I find it exasperating in the extreme. NB I run the embedded Norton Mobile Security Anti Malware without effect. Help....

Norton Mobile Security does not have a spam email blocker. Or are you talking of pop ups in your browser?

Criteo seems to be an adverstising pop up. The information I found seems to indicate you can stop this by removing the history and cookies from your browser. This information from the Citeo web site may help.   http://www.criteo.com/deactivate-criteo-banners/
