Last night, I suddenly had what appeared to be a virus attack my PC. Since I am not technical with internal systems, I called the tech support center. I spoke with a friendly gentleman named Sam. I was told that I could pay $99.99 to have his professional security person remove the virus....he stated that it was hard for an unskilled person to remove all the traces of a virus. (I thought that is why I have the software installed on my PC!) After much conversation, Sam finally convinced me that it was best to have "his professional" remove the virus. He was to send me a receipt to my email after I provided him with my credit card information. The professional was to walk me through everything that she was going to do as I watched the romote control and tell me in depth how to prevent the virus in the future. I now feel like a complete, stupid idiot for falling for this scam.
After I was transferred, the young lady told me she had rebooted my PC prior to even looking at the screens that lead me to contacting them in the first place. After I finally convinced her that she had NOT rebooted my PC, she had to talk to her supervisor to figure out what was going on! She deleted my temp files and my recycle folder (I even know how to do that!)! She also accessed some of my hidden files in complete silence...she had me on mute most of the time! After 30 minutes, she said that she found no evidence that I had a virus on PC. When I questioned that response, she took over my PC again and came back to state that one virus was found.
This morning, I still have not received the confirmation of the charge to my credit card. I have searched every where I know to find a way to contact Norton/Symatec to discuss the customer experience and try to validate the charge was really for their service without any luck. For some reason, I expected allot more from a company that specializes in PC security. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
