Can someone please tell me what file the Norton Internet Security 2009 removes/corrupts as part of its installation? I have used the Norton anti-virus software (along with the Norton Systemworks 2003) version for over 5+ years. Each time I never had a problem applying the upgrade.
However, this year (as the antivirus was not available for 1-3 PCs - only one), I had to upgrade to the NIS 2009 application. On 2 separate PCs (my father in-laws and then mine), each attempt to simply install the contents of the CD ended in the system being damaged to the point where none of the icons worked on the desktop (received repeated messages that Windows could not open a file - e.g. rundll.exe, reg32.exe, etc).
Fortunately for my father-in-law a re-install of the operating system saved his data (although I still have not re-attempted to install the NIS software). Unfortunately for me, the re-install didn't work and I now need to bring my desktop to IT folks to see if they can can salvage it (this folllowing an entire lost weekend of lost phone time with DELL, backing up files and attempting to use repair tools).
This is absolutely brutal.
