Dear Norton, why am I still paying for you?

For close to 20 years my family and I have renewed you, Norton Antivirus. We were sort of ‘content’ with you especially when you stopped an attack that one time… but I’ve since learned a lot Norton. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I see you now have a new desktop GUI and along with that, more of those intrusive desktop pop-ups trying to get more money out of me. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was able to disable your INTRUSIVE advertisement pop-ups in the past but with this new desktop GUI, I have no way to opt-out, AGAIN, of these INTRUSIVE pop-ups. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don’t care about your LifeLock or other junk services and with these new greedy & INTRUSIVE pop-up Norton advertisements… it’s got me thinking - why am I still paying for this daily harassment? See, if you just ran in the background, silently doing whatever it is I think you do (false sense of security?), you’d still be getting your renewals and there would be peace. But now, Greedy Norton Corp America, what is it that I need from you? What am I getting out of this besides extremely annoyed? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Can you identify a usb rubber ducky? Do you find, stop and let me know about any keyloggers or similar malicious programs? What about scanning hidden trackers in pictures? The answer is NO because in corp-america networking world, “if’n it aint in the documentation, its not a supported feature”. If I’m mistaken based on your tech support (see #2), SHOW ME THE DOCUMENTATION! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Your support is horrendous; the few times I’ve had to reach out to tech support for general information/questions (see #1 above), they had no clue. How much time and effort do you give your employees for training? How much do you really care about your employees? Do you pay them well or is turnover too high? When my issue is serious and I really need support, am I SOL? Will I be told I should have bought all of your other products? I know your shareholders need maximum profits so does that just make me an afterthought? Am I just a tool? In your eye’s Norton, am I being a nuisance right now? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. How much of my personal information are you selling behind my back? I mean, you have access to my system and have no qualms being intrusive… you’re obviously Greedy and want more money… by my maths, you’re setup to be worse than google/fb/any isp/….list goes on and on. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Why, when I disable all of your firewall features, do you still block stuff? Why do I have to uninstall you when I’m doing ‘networking things’ on my system? I mean, “off” should be “OFF”, right? Or is this related to #3 above? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Why does your forum remove line breaks (i.e. carriage returns!?!) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Granted I’m just a low-level networking dude and NOT a security expert but I run all browsers sandboxed and I use separate profiles based on the task; I use uBlock Origin (which has, exponentially, done more for me than anything Norton… and it’s free other than a ‘ty donation’) and my browsers blow away all cookies & history after I leave a site or I close a tab. I have Windows Defender (meh). I vet peripherals before attaching them to my system. If I’m dealing with potentially malicious activities (software, sites, peripherals, etc), I run them in a VM on a separate ESXi server that I have no problem nuking – I’ve been there and I’ve done it. Yes Norton, sometimes I’m wild and crazy but this is MY system, NOT yours! My emails are all text based. I’ve changed Win10 registry to prompt for my password when UAC is triggered. Ugh, do I really need to go on? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This break-up notice has wasted my time today – all because you’re harassing me by wanting more of my hard earned dollars you publically traded, greedy company. I suspect it won’t be easy getting rid of you and I’ll have to reinstall my OS… wipe all my drives… possibly get a restraining order as well? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your renewal is coming up here very soon… So tell me, why am I still paying for you Norton? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Exactly. NOrton worked ok for about 2 months since then, reset, reboot, no easy assistance,VPN not working, at risk, download failed, download failed, download failed. I will bet my last dollar that the auto renew function works, but not on my account.
