Definitions Update + Slow Broadband connection

I have just recently Installed norton 360 to my Windows Vista laptop. My broadband connection slows right down when I have used up my allocated amount of GB’s. So when I installed the N360 it said that the last definitions update was 416 days ago and my ‘PC Security At Risk’ logo is warning me of risk of infection. So I clicked on fix now and it kept on stopping - so I have restarted a number if times, but it now says in the ‘activities and scan details’ box that ‘Another norton live update session is already running. Please try again later’. However, unlike as in the first time I ran this update, there is no indication of how many mb’s are remaining to download or any indication at all that it is running and actually getting the new definition updates. Should I wait till my Internet speed returns to normal and in the meantime just leave it or does anyone have any suggestions that may help? Thank you.

Hello

Also what was the previous security program and how was it uninstalled please? Thanks.

Hello Ozinhill

Welcome to the norton forum.

If you have installed N360 v4 from the cd, definitions update: 400 + days ago is expected. Because its been almost a year since the product was released and the product should have been packaged a few weeks\months before it is made available in the retail stores.

You will have to run live update repeatedly till there are no more updated left. This should get you to version 4.3.0.5.

Yes, you are at risk if the virus definitions are so old.

And FYI, you can also use the intelligent updater to update the virus definitions. You can download it from here:

http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=n95

(choose the right one depending on whether your system is 32 bit or 64 bit)

'Another norton live update session is already running. Please try again later' - this message comes up if the you are trying to run live update , when the automatic live update is running in the background. Automatic live update is a silent process, so it would not show the live update dialog box with the MB info.

Hope this helps.
