I just received an email saying that Norton attempted to charge me for the renewal of my Norton 360 Deluxe subscription, but the transaction failed.
When I log into my Norton account, it clearly shows that my current subscription expires on 12/12/2025 (over 30 days left). Because of this, I am confused why Norton is already attempting to charge me now.
My question is:
Will my subscription remain active until 12/12/2025 even if I do not renew at this moment?
If possible I would like to wait a few weeks before renewal (a few days before the listed expiration date), but want to make sure the subscription will not become inactive.
Any guidance or confirmation from someone who has experienced this would be greatly appreciated.
Renewal payments are billed annually (up to 35 days before renewal) or monthly depending on your billing cycle.
Your subscription will continue through the end of your paid subscription term.

====================================
By default, Norton subscriptions are set to automatically renew at the end of the paid term to prevent a lapse in your protection. Your stored payment method will be charged at the then-current renewal price.
If you have canceled the automatic renewal feature before the billing date, the following will happen:
Your subscription will continue through the end of the term you have already paid for.
The subscription will then end and you will no longer be charged.
You will lose access to premium features and services, including the latest security updates, real-time threat protection, and any associated benefits like online backup storage (which may be purged).
Your device will no longer be fully protected against new and evolving threats, as the software will not receive the latest virus definitions and security patches.
The software on your device may eventually deactivate and become non-operational.
To ensure continuous protection, you need to either allow the automatic renewal to proceed or manually purchase a new subscription before the current one expires. Norton sends notification emails before an annual renewal charge so you are aware of the upcoming billing date and price.
---------------------------------------
Norton 360 will essentially stop working effectively if you do not renew the subscription. The software may automatically deactivate and become non-operational at the end of the paid term.
Here is what happens specifically:
No New Updates: The most critical impact is that the software will no longer receive the latest virus definitions and security patches. This leaves your device vulnerable to new and emerging malware threats.
Deactivated Features: You will lose access to the premium features that come with Norton 360, such as real-time threat protection, the Secure VPN, Dark Web Monitoring, and cloud backup storage.
Loss of Protection: The core protection mechanisms may shut down entirely. An inactive subscription means the program can no longer actively monitor and block threats, even if the application is still installed on your device.
Alert Messages: You will start seeing messages and alerts within the Norton application and possibly your system notifications, indicating that your subscription is inactive and that you are not protected.
For these reasons, it is highly recommended to maintain an active subscription for continuous, up-to-date protection. If you choose not to renew, you should uninstall the software and ensure that your operating system’s built-in security (like Windows Defender) is active.
