It would be useful if users were able to delete their own post outright during the normal edit period. I know one can either remove all content where the moderator might see it and remove the post, or one can ask the moderator to remove it specifically, yet it would be nice (during the finite edit period) if one could remove one's own post.
Actually, the German Norton Forums have this option Also, you have more than 1 hour to edit your post (I don't know how many hours exactly, but you've got a lot of time - I think it is 24 hours - I am not certain) and you can delete your post ("Nachricht löschen"). From the looks of it, there is currently no fixed time limit within which you have to delete your post. I don't know if the German Forum will keep this arrangement - it is still very new and currently in a beta-phase.
On the other hand, if someone posts something which has a negative influence or impact, then the person can try to avoid taking the responsibility by deleting their post.
AllenM, if you need to remove your post during the edit time, you can simply edit out your message leaving a blank post and it will be removed by a moderator.
If you need your post removed after the edit time has expired, you can Notify a Moderator and your post will be removed.
Thanks, I mentioned both of those in my original post. I'm only suggesting that giving that direct access to the posting user for a finite period might be a good idea.
