My kids' computer was infected with Trojan.FakeAV this week. Somehow it slipped by Norton 360, but was found and removed when I installed Norton AV 2010.
The computer has multiple user accounts and it seems that only 1 account was affected by the virus interface. Fortunately, not the Administrator account.
After the virus was removed, the affected user account was left with a black desktop and no visible desktop icons. I was able to right click on the desktop and change the background, but there are still no icons available. As a further test, I dragged and dropped a file to the desktop but the icon was not visible.
I assume the virus created this situtation where the background is hiding the icons.
Is there a way to restore the normal desktop operation?
