OK... so I downloaded a file which I know is safe... It's a Windows executable in a zip file. It's from a developer whom I've helped beta test and whose software I've used for over 10 years. I trust that this file is not infected.
BUT, Norton for Mac came back with a false positive. It says it deleted the zip file, but it NEVER did.
Wasn't upset about that since I knew it was wrong.
BUT, I left my computer on overnight and let the idle time scan run. It scanned my email attachments. I use AirMail. And I KNOW that the file it found was in fact a trojan. I had deleted it directly off of the server (since I can do that) using another method, but didn't realize it had also downloaded into AirMail and was still waiting to be launched (lol, like I would actually ever attempt to open it (it was so obviously spam/virus mail)).
BUT again... it says it deleted the Trojan zip file. BUT IT NEVER DELETED IT!
This is rather disturbing. You buy Anti-Virus to protect your computer. I'm very glad it's informing me of detections. But it's not repairing/deleting them.
I search the forums, and I see this has been noted as a problem going back years....
If I wasn't a Mutli-Device Norton 360 subscriber (I use this on my Windows machines, and I figure I might as well install it on the Mac), I would certainly be dropping your service.
On another completely unrelated note... your firewall blocks every outgoing connection and doesn't remember your selections. Thanks for blocking it, but can we please remember that its been allowed. I don't want to click Allow every time I open this program. Thank you... I've seen this also posted over and over. I gave up on the firewall and deactivated it. I use the built in firewall in conjunction with Little Snitch and this suits my needs.

Lastly, I'm also plagued by the SymDaemon going nuts... But it's different for me. It only goes crazy when its idle. And it goes back to normal immediatley if I move the cursor. This happens with idle scan turned on or off...

BUT, an Anti-Virus that doesn't actually do repairs and only detects???? I'm seriously considering just dropping Norton off my Mac once and for all. And I've used Symantec's products going back to my old 68K Mac Performa 638 CD. Do a search for that computer, it ran OS 7.0 when purchased! But OS 6 was the norm at that point. Yes, THAT LONG!
I love Norton 360 on my Windows systems... it has always worked unless an update failed (and that's very very rare... but a complete reinstall of Norton has always fixed that... and that hasn't happend for quite some number of years!), But I agree with other posters, Norton for Mac is completely flawed.
Here is a screenshot for the first one it found tonight.

As you can see it says its deleted... BUT THE FILE IS STILL THERE AND IS OPEN!!!!
Luckily, this is a safe file.
I'd appreciate a response from Symantec on these two very serious issues and request that they provide answers to their loyal users (such as myself) as to why I shouldn't run to their competitors on the Mac. Also keep in mind my renewal date comes up in 44 days...
