Device Not Supported

Device not supported Norton Internet Security does not run on this Android operating system.

That is the message I get when I try to install NIS on my phone when using the email invitation sent from my.norton account.

If I install the app from the playstore it works perfectly.

How can I install this on my phone and get it to co-ordinate with my current 3 devices licence. Purchased 1 year subscription 2 months ago.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Norton Fighter,

Thx very much for the prompt answer. It worked and I have installed the Android on my Lenovo.

Yes. This would be the same issue for you. Norton Internet Security and Norton 360 were the older product lines that did not offer protection for mobile devices. They have been replaced by the newer Norton Security line of products. As long as you have been keeping your 360 up to date, (current version is 22.9.4.8 ), it is functionally the same as the Norton Security Premium product that can protect up to 10 devices. Including mobile devices.

Hi Norton Fighter

I wonder if your detailed explanations have any bearings on my problem with downloading Norton Premier Edition to my new Lenovo Tablet YT-X703L, Android 6.0.1, 1 license left. I get the message that Norton 360 does not function on this device. Thankful for help

Can you verify the exact name of your product? You refer to Norton Internet Security. You can check this from the main Norton product screen at the top left.

Where did you purchase this? NIS is an older Norton product that is no longer sold by Norton. You may have gotten some old inventory. No problem with that really. Just that you do not get all the advantages of the newer product line, including being able to protect mobile devices.

Mmm thanks for the message however I only purchased recently and not sure how it could be termed "older". Obviously my fault should have realised but so many norton products that I am confused. Might be time to find a new AV when current licence expires.

Looking back over the thread, it makes sense now that you could not get the product through your Norton Account as the older Norton Internet Security products did not support mobile devices.

If you change your mind, go back to floplot's post above that mentions moving up to the newer Norton Security line of products. With a subscription to NS, you do get installs on mobile products included.

No Google Play Store just the browsers. I have removed the app anyway as I am not going to pay for another instance of Norton.

On my phone, when I tap the Download Now button, a list of browsers and apps comes up. At the bottom of that list was the Google Play Store. Tapping on that took me to the download on the Play Store.

Can you try the process again just to verify we are both seeing the same thing? It will not affect your current install, as when you get to the Play Store it will show already installed.

I sent the email from my norton account. I then clicked on the Download Now section of the email via my phone and it then opens the browser and goes to the my.norton.com website and I get the Device Not Supported message. Hope this helps.

NIS is only coded for Windows or Mac systems. Mobile systems require totally different code.

When you sent the email from your Norton Account, did you open the email on the phone, and click download from there? I just tried this and it sent me to the Google Play Store for the download.

Did you send the email directly from your Norton Account on the web site, or did you click from your Norton product to add another device?

Ok I understand. Any reason why? Back to Lookout!

Hello

NIS can only be used on computers and laptops. If you purchase Norton Security, then you can use it on your Android phone, but you would have to get it from the Android Play Store and use that program.. After you download the program, then you log into your Norton Account, then it will get picked up. NIS can not be used for cell phones.

Thanks.
