I have a Macbook Pro with 8GB of RAM that was super fast. I loaded Norton's antivirus a few days ago and now while surfing the net it halting and catching, and generally making me wait while typing or moving the cursor with the mouse. The only new thing is the installation of Norton's product. What can I do besides uninstall and ask for a refund? Anyone? Thanks.
I turned off Safe Surfing and that seems to have helped. But really, is that the solution? Turn off the program I paid for? Anyone?
Unfortunately, that's the way of things with the Norton product. It's got all these features, but also comes with a lot of bugs.
I've had to exclude scanning Time Machine volumes, or the scan takes days (and still doesn't complete). My system also started crashing or locking up once I set up a Boot Camp partition, and I've had to prevent AntiVirus from scanning it to make my computer stable again.
Others have reported these issues too, but real fixes are slow to come, if ever. Symantec's "solution" is to tell people to disable functionality, instead of making their product work in real-life scenarios. It makes me wonder if they test their software on systems with Time Machine volumes, or a Boot Camp partition.
I've decided not to renew my subscription when it's up this year, as I've had to turn off one too many features to make Symantec's software worthwhile.
