Did not receive 3.5.2.11

Hi,

Do you know how I can get this update? I tried manually Liveupdating multiple times in a row still did not get this update... Installed v3 today running 7 RTM.

Yeah well - I'm still sitting here on 3.0.0.135.  This is crap - Have a three license pack and all three have BS issues.  Symantec is known for beta testing on it's customers. It's Microsofts fault, it's firefoxs fault, (hey looks like you FINALLY got the IPS issue resolved by the way).

Posts here are useless, finger pointing away from Symantec team (everything is not thier fault). They cannot "make it compatible with every last configuration." FINE- well then can you make it run properly on ONE of my three machines.  And why is is preinstalled on my laptop if it is not 100% compatible.

run the removal tool (not once but norton says three times). Reinstalls do not install the latest version. Updates suck (see version number above - yet my subscription ticks down daily).

and the part that I like best - even when it is running properly, and has the latest updates SYMANTEC recommends runing malwarebytes as a back up (TO CHECK IF THIER SOFTWARE MISSED SOMETHING).

LIke I said in my last post this product should be FREEWARE - since FREEWARE is used to double check your programs.

Nyarch,I read your other post also. Here is my advice.Pour yourself a glass of red, light up a cuban, sit in your favorite chair and relax.Don’t forget to breathe.I fear your head is about to explode

Indeed, patience is a virtue ;-) Those who haven't received the 2.11 patch as yet - please wait and keep an eye on this post, it will be updated when the patch is uploaded to the installation packages in the update center.

Nyarch: I can understand your frustration and impatience to a certain extent, but please refrain from ranting and using profanity. Others are waiting, too.

It's no-ones fault. It's just the way the update is going out on a controlled release and will eventually get to you via liveupdate

It's preinstalled on your laptop because your Laptop manufacturer decided that was the best AV product to preinstall on your machine

Symantec doesn't recommend using malwarebytes, that is done by forum members who assist with virus removal and use malwarebytes as an additional check tool.

Hi nyarch,

Welcome to the community!

While its unfortunate that you've not received the updates yet, I'd like to bring to your notice that it is underway. Here is an excerpt from Astrovet's annoucement.

"As a standard practice Symantec deploys patches over an extended period to our large world-wide customer base.  Starting on Monday August 31st, we will begin releasing our latest patch to the Norton Internet Security, Norton AntiVirus and Norton 360 products and over the course of the next few days we expect to have the patch fully deployed to all connected customers through either our Automatic LiveUpdate mechanism or through manual application of our LiveUpdate functionality.  As always, please let us know if you encounter any issues with this patch and thank you again for your patience."

We understand that there is some delay before it gets out to everyone. We appreciate your patience until we get this deployed completely to all our users.

Thanks,

nyarch!

I see that you're really frustrated here.

But as it states in the link that Yaso has given, the patch is in the process of deployment. Patience is the key. I'm still on my old NIS 16.5, but I know for sure that I'll get 16.7 anytime soon. I don't want to come for Norton's defense here. The reality is, the security features are not compromised. As someone who has paid for this product, my primary requirement is security and if it is not compromised then I've got very little to complain about this delay.

Also, I could see that some of your allegations here are baseless. Here is why.

"Posts here are useless, finger pointing away from Symantec team (everything is not thier fault). They cannot "make it compatible with every last configuration." FINE- well then can you make it run properly on ONE of my three machines.  And why is is preinstalled on my laptop if it is not 100% compatible."

I can't agree with you on that totally. I've come across numerous instances where Norton has owned responsibility for what we as responsible community members post. I'm sure our helpful Gurus would agree. Thought I've not had many posts here in this forum, I've been a passive spectator of the issues here for sometime now. I can bring about references to ASK.com searchbox issue that we raised here and it was answered and attended to as well. Statements like this will disinterest responsible community members like me. Remember, its the community that we all are a part of. Its up to us to stop blame games and use it in the best possible manner.

"run the removal tool (not once but norton says three times). Reinstalls do not install the latest version. Updates suck (see version number above - yet my subscription ticks down daily)."

Oftentimes, I've disagreed to running it three times. But it is done so as to prevent any possible traces left. Removal Tools designed by any product companies will always be light on its first run to ensure critical information is not damaged in the process.

"and the part that I like best - even when it is running properly, and has the latest updates SYMANTEC recommends runing malwarebytes as a back up (TO CHECK IF THIER SOFTWARE MISSED SOMETHING)."

It is done by those helpful community members like Quads and Delphinium. They do it to offer voluntary assistance to those community members like me who sometimes run into any malware attack. I would have been equally disgruntled and surely complained the same way you did, if Norton employees recommended the stuff here. I'm not a virus expert like Quads, but, surely he/she does that to remove infections that you might have to otherwise pay to remove it from your PC. This forum helps such people get free assistance on virus removal. Besides, its a great learning experience if we work with them to get that removed.

To clarify this further to avoid any flame war between us, I'm not saying you're being wrong. Just that I could see you are frustrated here and hence why posted it. As someone who has been using this forum for just my learning experience on Norton products, I disagreed with your statements. You have your right to be angry on Norton and I don't want to question that.

Okay, I think everyone has stated their point here ;-)) Please stick to the original thread topic ;-D Nevertheless: good observations from mdturner and mythbuster ;-D

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm pretty tired of being told to be patient with no firm ETA on this mystical magical patch that will allow the boxed software that was purchased to finally work properly.

If a bill isn't paid on time, do you think the bank will accept "I'm paying my bills in stages, just be patient and you'll get your money" as a good reason? No, I didn't think so. So why do consumers have to accept that excuse from corporations?

I think when you purchased your boxed software you will find it did not include compatibility with Win 7. It will be compatible with Win 7 when you get the 3.5.2.11 update which, like the rest of us, you will need to wait for as it is on a controlled release but you can check for it by doing a manual liveupdate each day.

Symantec's own information pages said that

a) a patch would be released for Windows 7 compatibility AND

b) a patch WAS released for Windows 7 compatibility.

I was very careful to only purchase the product after the patch had been released. Then the patch was yanked. I know why it was yanked and I don't care. Symantec dropped the ball on this one. If a patch is released, it should have been tested properly and thoroughly. It's not like Microsoft announced Windows 7 last week.

Additionally, now that there IS a patch available, they're not offering it for download and I can't get it through LiveUpdate. There's no firm or estimated ETA for when I can get the patch, it's a case of 'Thanks for your money. Too bad you can't use it. We'll let you know if/when you can use it. Bye!'

Exactly my point... tired of having technical answers to a FUNCTIONAL problem. Symantec is CONSISTENLY behind the curve with the product updates/patches/fixes, and is the most expensive (typical consumer) product out there. And don't forget to use your FREEWARE to check 360 for its mistakes and blunders...

Of note - the users (again hail Quad and Delph) have tried to TS this - or give an explanation on behalf of Symantec.

See other post here:

This thread was started by someone who cannot wait to go to 3.5.2.11.... I'm still waiting to get off of 3.ZERO.ZERO.135 (on one machine - other two are on 3.5.2.10). I'm sure there is SOME update between 3.0.0.135 and 3.5.2.11.... why is liveupdate not going to one of those incremental updates?

Yeah yeah I know - uninstall, run the removal tool three times, reinstall and wait for symantec to push me the update... TIA for the tip.

Runs like freeware, is supported like freeware, is checked by freeware - 360 should be freeware.

Hey symantec - how about extending my subscription the number of days I've been waiting for the FF 3.5/IPS fix + FF3.5 toolbar fix + something resembling win 7 compatibility? I am asked to wait, and you know what, I honestly have NO PROBLEM WAITING.  Just put my subscription countdown on wait too! Let's see how willing Symantec is to push updates to me AFTER my subscriptions expire, and I ask them to WAIT on a renewal payment...

Are you serious? That's an actual solution for this problem? You must be joking. There's no way an 'industry leader' like Symantec would have such a poor solution to the problem of not receving updates. That's the kind of solution I'd expect from a 1st year Comp. Sci. student.

Look through the boards man - that is the solution - START OVER.... and wait.

Hence the start of my multiple repeated rants about freeware....

Wow. Once my sister is done her first year of Univeristy, I’ll be dumping 360 like a rancid potato. She may have to use 2 programs to accomplish everything but at least they’ll, you know, WORK.

"It's no-ones fault. It's just the way the update is going out on a controlled release and will eventually get to you via liveupdate "

I dont even care if it is 3.5.2.11 - isn't there a SINGLE incremental update between 3.0.0.135 and 3.5.2.11? Not that I mentioned this yet, but this is for an XP machine, the 3.5.2.11 update is mainly for Win 7.  For me 2.11 will be a perk (although I do want the FF 3.5/IPS issue resolved, included in 2.11).

"It's preinstalled on your laptop because your Laptop manufacturer decided that was the best AV product to preinstall on your machine"

Obviuosly not in marketing - Symantec pays for it to be there.

"Symantec doesn't recommend using malwarebytes, that is done by forum members who assist with virus removal and use malwarebytes as an additional check tool. "

The fact that this is a solution used/advised by the users should be a HUGE concern to Symantec.

Any suggestions on some other security solutions out there (Compatible with Windows 7 of course)?  I'm just ready to miss a couple of meals and buy another subscription already.  This is just like a bad relationship and I'm the one which can't let go, and just move on. Karma is a b****!  LOL

I had been using AVG's software flawlessly with Windows 7 (from Alpha to Beta to RC to RTM) until I lost my mind and bought 360. Downside is that there is no backup option with AVG. I am unaware of any piece of security software with Anti-Virus, Internet Security AND Backup, other than 360.

That being said, I have no problem using 2 working programs in place of 1 non-working 360.

This thread has been forced off topic. Please stick to the subject matter. Thanks, everyone
