I am currently running Windows XP (SP3) with a Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition 7.61_B37 provided to me by the company that I was working for prior to retiring in 2007. I recently found out that this company has changed their PC Security direction and has moved to another tool. In addition, this means that any employee, or in my case retiree, that was using this product on their home pc must uninstall it and find a replacement .
.
I am not sure, but it also appears that my Live Updates are no longer picking up any revised information since I perform a monthly update and it continues to come back and tell me that there are no new updates. The version of the virus tables that is currently loaded is dated 10/13/2010 which seems a bit suspect. Starting about 12 January, I am also having some other strange problems occur like the MS Malware Tool hangs, my LinkSYS software gets an Internet Script Error for Security and my MS Internet Explorer has slowed to a crawl.
I want to comply and remove the NAVCE 7.61 so I did some research to see what it would take. The primary suggestion is to use the Add/Remove Progam tool in Windows XP to remove both the NAV and Live Update software. However there are also indications that some people have had trouble with this and have been directed to using a special Norton Removal Tool. There are also manual procedures all over the internet which kind of confuses things. Some of these references are posted in the Norton Community. So, before I attempt to do the Add/Remove Program I wanted to have the Norton Removal Tool downloaded just in case. However, when I accessed the link to the tool, it attempts to funnel you down to the proper level of the software…ie Norton 2003 or later…etc. However, there is no reference/selection for Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition 7.6.1.
So, that is why I am sending this request to hopefully get the correct instructions right from the proverbial horses mouth.
Thanks in advance for any help/direction that you can provide for me.
