We have 3 identical Netbooks in the family. Two of them have had the Norton Security Suite installed via our ISP for several months with no problems at all. A couple days ago, the third NB started getting false ‘Hard Drive Failure’ errors announced by ‘Windows Restore’… a scam which had set +H on all of the computer’s files, but left WiFi and internet functionality intact.
I loaded the Norton SS on that NB as I had with the others and it removed the scam-ware. When I rebooted the NB, WiFi was disabled. When I attempt to enable WiFi, I get a blunt message, ‘WiFi enable failure.’ The system tells me that the onboard WiFi device is working correctly. I’m assuming that either Norton is blocking WiFi enable or that crucial WiFi files are corrupted or have been removed.
Can anyone help me navigate through steps to troubleshoot and/or correct this situation?
Thanks.
