Hello;
I have Norton NIS 2011 installed on my computer and I want to disable the Quick Scans it does. Is there any way to do this? I see from previous forum threads that this cannot be disabled, but I am too incredulous to believe that Symantec would not include this option in their software (they have, after all, given consumers the Silent Mode option, even if only for a maximum of 1 day).
So, can I disable Qucik Scan? If not, can I at least make sure it doesn’t run during non-idle times by setting the Idle Timer to 30 minutes?
By the way, I keep hearing this nonsense that quick scans are fast and run when the computer is idle. This is nonsense. I just ran the scan and it took over a minute to complete (believe it or not this is a long time, especially when I am in a rush and need to shut down my computer). I also had Idle Time Out set to the maximum (30 minutes) and was working on my computer when it ran the scan. But even if one accepts that the scans are fast and occur when the computer is idle, these are irrelevant. I want to decide when a program runs, not Symantec. I am tired of being treated like a helpless invalid by Symantec with their products, who constantly introduce features that they think are best for their customers, forcing me to search for all the automated nonsense so I can disable it. It is still galling that I cannot disable silent mode permanently, but at least I can disable it. If anyone at Norton is listening, why don't they offer an option at startup for novices (whereby all program functions are turned on) and a separate option for those who feel comfortable around computers (where we can pick and choose what we want running). I don’t need a Norton babysitter.
Sorry for the rant. Thanks as always to those who take the time to respond.
Kind regards,
Tonia
