I have just bought the DishTVforPC software but cannot download it. It almost downloads but then the pc says I need permission to continue. I am in the administrator account but it will not let me proceed. Norton then tells me it has blocked a Trojan.
I have seen lots of posts around the net that say this software is safe and legal. I have bought it through Paypal with a money back guarantee so it sounds legit.
Anybody know if it is safe (or not)? If so, any ideas how I can complete my download (I have Vista 64).
I was hoping that something more specific would have been noted.
A quick search notes that a few people have reported that the download redirects to Ziggytv (also as indicated in your file name), and that is where the Trojan is detected.
Allow me some time to look into it. Perhaps another forum member will jump in with some info.
Unfortunately, through my searches I have not been able to find any definitive answers for you regarding the Trojan alert during your download. My opinion is that Norton's action to block it is correct.
There is varying opinion regarding DishTvforPC and ZiggyTV. Some folks like it, others do not. I noted a few comments about some programs being pulled due to copyright infringement. Add to that, many of these types of programs are scams.
You should note this item of interest at the bottom of the ZiggyTV page:
"Disclaimer: ZiggyTV does not host or upload any video, audio or game content. ZiggyTV only links to user submitted websites and is not responsible for the legality of third party website content."
So, in essence you are paying for a program to link you to already existing video websites.
I have asked another knowledgeable forum member to look into DishTVforPC. However, DishTVforPC may just be an affiliate for ZiggyTV as both sites have full pages devoted to becoming an affiliate. To me, that speaks volumes.
Could you answer a couple of questions concerning the download to clarify things, please.
1. Are you downloading from the DishTVforPC site, an authorized mirror site that DishTVforPC linked to, or some other site?
2. Can you elaborate on the "permission to continue" alert. Was this a Windows alert and what exactly did it say?
3. Are you attempting to download and install this directly online, or have you tried saving the installer file to your PC and then running it (PLEASE always right click the file and scan with Norton before double-clicking to run the installer if you do this).
4. Can you determine if it is the download, or the installation process that is blocked?
I'm not familiar with this program either. It's possible that it is legitimate but that the file you were directed to is infected or not authentic. In any event I would be extremely careful here and abandon trying to install the suspect file and instead look for a different installation file from a known good source, if this is something you absolutely must have. You have a couple of squirrelly things going on with this one, so you really have to ask yourself how much you actually need this program. What you have shared here would be enough to convince me that I could live a very happy life without DishTVforPC.

Thanks Phil for all your help. It really is good of you to spend the time.
SOJ - The website I am trying to download the software from is http://www.dishtvforpc.com although there are a hundred or so letters after that to point to my membership etc.
The error message was a windows alert. When the download is 99% complete it says
You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this file
setup-ziggytv-pro.exe
Date created 01/08/09 23:04
size 0 bytes
The Norton message then also appears in the bottom corner saying "Auto protect blocked security risk Trojan Horse. Your computer is secure"
I was only trying to save the file to My Documents not to install it
If I click continue it then says Windows Needs Permission to Continue and has a detailed message of
{3AD05575-8857-4850-9277-11B85BDB8E09}
I did email their support email address about 12 hours ago but I haven't heard anything back yet.
I too am coming to the conclusion that I can live without this program. I had just hoped it would give me access to a few sports channels to watch American Football etc.
I am pleased that I bought it with Paypal which at least has always had a good recovery service.
