System: Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1 and Norton SystemWorks 2008 Standard with current subscription
Symptoms: PC has crashed several times a day all week. Investigations have led me to suspect HD problems.
My Background: I'm an engineer looking for knowledgeable responses only, not conjectures. Software and PC hardware aren't my full-time job, but I'm better than dangerous behind the keyboard. Please don't bore me with un-educated responses or try blowing smoke up ... (-;
Issue Summary: I ran Norton Disk Doctor (NDD) several times today in an attempt to find and fix errors identified by NDD, but it appears that NDD cannot (or will not) fix the errors it has found.
Issue Details:
Step 1, ran NDD on my HD primary partition. The report [excerpt below] indicated these errors...

Step 2, ran NDD again on same partition with "Fix errors" checked. After it ran and scheduled a fix, I rebooted the PC. NDD ran as expected after the reboot and returned me to Vista.
Step 3, ran NDD with "Fix errors" UNchecked. Again, here are the interesting lines from the report...

Step 5 (repeat of Step 1 & 3), ran NDD with "Fix errors" UNchecked. Again, here are the interesting lines from the report which differs from the first two...

At this point I stopped since if anything there are more problems than before. It certainly looks like a problem at $I30, but how do I fix this? Before the steps above I've run the Windows chkdsk with the either the "/f" or "/r" switches (can't recall which one now).
While I'm not certain if these problems are the cause of the PC crashes or a symptom of a related problem, I'm stuck right now. Anyone out there familiar enough with NDD to troubleshoot the messages above?
Thanks.
