Hi Thanks for the reply but it has been this way for a few weeks now. I realize that defragging/optimizing a 750GB drive will take an eternity but it shouldn't be failing out in 30seconds.
I think I have resolved the issue after some digging into the system logs I found that it wasn't in fact a problem with Norton but a problem with Windows.
when running defrag C: /U /V in the CLI I got an error during the actual defragmentation/optimization portion.
The tool wouldn't defrag but the GUI would report that it succeeded. The error thrown in the CLI is
"Boot optimization could not complete due to a lack of free space. (0x89000019)"
After consulting Google this took me to
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/f0e248bc-8849-42f4-9be9-4bef28ea863e/defrag-boot-optimization-due-to-lack-of-space?forum=w7itproperf
which after applying, I ran defrag in the CLI and no more error.
Then I started the Optimization Fix in Norton 360 and it is now at 5 minutes which is a %500 improvement. Hopefully this helps anyone else who experiences this problem. I will update if/when this optimization completes.
One hour and thirty eight minutes later and everything is kosher now.
