I have Norton 360 v21.6.0.32. Last Saturday when I logged on to the PC the disk was running at 100% - not the Highest Active time - flat lined at 100% for minutes at a time, drop to a normal usage then immediately back up to 100% for minutes. Task Manager showed n360.exe as the culprit with over a billion read/write B/sec. I left the PC working for a while, then returned and thought it was done but as soon as I opened anything or tried to access a file the disk usage fired up again with the same behavior - still showing n360 as the issue. I searched the forums and found a suggestion for Norton Removal tool and reinstall - which I did. The disk usage returned to normal although I noticed that the executable in Task Manager now showed as N360.exe (note the UPPERCASE N). Things were good so I was done.
Automatic updates occurred this week as always.
Today when I logged on the PC was again showing high disk usage and the Task Manager was showing the usage going to n360.exe so I'm now back to my lowercase n360.exe and the disk is banging away so the computer is not usable. I have, again, uninstalled and re-installed but it seems unreasonable that I should have to do that two weeks in a row.
A couple of posts suggest upgrading to Norton Security with Backup but I'm also not sure it's reasonable to have to upgrade because the current product is consuming a disproportionate amount of resources.
Anybody have any ideas on why the name keeps changing? Or what is causing the high disk usage? Or have any other ideas for fixing other than reinstalling once per week?
