I have read a number of threads both here and elsewhere on this topic. It seems like each is its own particular case. While visiting an international newspaper site, java.exe loaded and hogged resources for a long time. Right after, I started experiencing hijacking to sites selling a bunch of stuff. Looking at the security history of events at that time, pdfupd.exe “modified your system configuration.” I don’t know if the two are connected or not, but it seems an interesting coincidence.
I have done numerous quick scans, occasionally netting one tracking cookie and one full scan. I have run gmer uncovering nothing that I can recognize as malevolent. The problem will go away for a short interval, perhaps after a quick scan or something(?), only to reappear later. I ran hijack this and will attach the log.
I appreciate any help you may be able to offer.
Regards,
Bruce
