I am currently running Norton Internet Security 2011.
I also have a purchased version of Norton 360 v4 that has 6 months remaining on its license.
I'd like to upgrade from NIS to 360 5.0.
After I uninstall NIS 2011, do I have to reinstall 360 4.0 before I can upgrade to 5.0 through the online process? Or can I just download v5 "clean install" some way through my registered online id?

It looks as if you go to the Update Center and select, not the robot but the manual alternative below that click on and then select N360 V4 and continue on you can get V5.
I'd recommend selecting the Save alternatives and not Run but on my NIS 2011 installation I just told it I wanted to update my N360 V4 (which is on another OS actually) and it downloaded the Download Manager which I saved and then when I ran that it started the download and installation .... as far as did I agree with terms at ahich point I aborted.
Soit's up to you to try if you want to but I doubt that it is a supported method!

Before you jump, hang on a moment. tightpants is correct that you don't have to uninstall V4 to upgrade to V5 but as I understand you will not have N360 of any kind on your PC and I don't know if you can use the Update Center, where I know the V5 is available, on a machine without N360 on it; if you have NIS on it I'm pretty certain it won't download N360 V5 ...
You can go to the Trial page of the Norton Web Site and download a Trial version of N360 V5 and install that BUT to do that you have to enter a delayed purchase order with your credit card details and that will automatically be charged after the trial period ends (30 days?) if you do not cancel your purchase order ..... and that sometimes goes wrong or gets forgotten in the excitement!
So unless you have already uninstalled NIS I'd hang on a few days and (a) see if there are any gotchas in the new V5 and (b) if the special download site for a one piece installation file becomes available as it is at present for V4.
When you do go to download make sure you get the version that matches the V4 that you already have: standard / premier / netbook because the KEYs are not interchangeable ...
Thanks for the answers. It's not a big deal for me to (1) uninstall my current NIS 2011, then (2) install 360 v4, and then (3) go through the online free upgrade process.
I was just trying to not have to do that 2nd step if I didn't really need to. Plus I like doing "clean" installs of major product upgrades; I'm always concerned that some little bits will get left behind that cause problems down the road.
I don't see any harm in trying the Update Center route on the clean computer since it got as far as beginning to work for me.
The only stopper might be if you tell it to go ahead the next thing it asks is in effect do you want to keep settings or completely uninstall the present installation and it would not find one.
If that stopped it then you could just clean up and do the install of your V4 ......
Sorry not to have continued this morning but I was already late to go out when I started the download!
