Do i need WIndows Updates if i have NIS? I really need to delay the introduction of SP3 for a coupleof months. Do they overlap and both do the same job?
I am dreading installing SP3 as i know in the recent years there were three different updates that made serious errors with my OS. Two of them were widely acknowledged at the time and it was recommended not to install them. So i duly uninstalled them and all was fine.
Of those i remember one affected the sound 'VIA AudioHDeck' and another caused major problems with the 'NVidea' graphics. As SP3 is mainly an accumulation of previous updates it will reintroduce those that caused me problems originally.
I have important work ahead over the next couple of months and don't want to risk messing up my computer. Obviously i am aware that viruses and trojans etc. would do the same. So my question is, in view of the fact i have NIS installed and will have my SP2 updates right until the day (in June) it becomes unsupported, can i wing it for a month or two before installing SP3?
