My computer recently got attacked by some kind of trojan. When I tried to get more information, Norton, Very helpfully, suggested that I use Norton Power Erase to remove it. Come to find out, this was the exact WRONG thing to do, I was informed by both Norton tech support, who had no idea how that happened, or even what Norton Power Erase was, and also several members of this forum! Of course, all of this falls under the file of "time machine", as I only found this out AFTER the damage was done! So, allow me to warn you before you use it! Norton Power Erase will mess your system up, and should not even be on there! Norton staff don't even know what it is!

Hi,
Sorry you had such a poor experience and perhaps worse advice. NPE is a powerful tool and should not be the first thing you use to try and correct a problem.
Because malware removal isn't being done in these open forums I recommend you go to one of the listed free sites and work with one of their trained volunteer staff to do the cleanup job correctly the first time.

I've used them and can recommend them.
Keep us posted
I'm working with them presently, but first priority is getting my computer back online somehow.

Hi,
Their priority is the same as yours. Please do not try any do-it-yourself fixes while you wait. That will only complicate the process and possibly make it worse.
Oh, I know. I am taking things step by step. I have been in contact with a gentleman on another forum, who linked me to a program where I can scan for what's going on, and he is helping me. At this point, all I know how to do to fix things would be a clean install. I prefer not to do that, as I have to back up my files, and take a whole day. Currently, my computer is still able to be used to play games, watch movies, and whatnot. I shall be patient.
