i bought one last year and got a family member to install it for me (just to give them something to do lol) but another family member asked me if they needed to make a norton account if they bought NIS or if they could just enter the serical key i told them its free but they said they dont want to be bother with emails. idk
To activate your Norton product, the owner of the key will have to have a Norton Account. The only emails that will be sent are regarding the Account activity. ie When the subscription is about to expire, there will be a warning.
you dont need a account to download the trial verion of nis could you just enter the key or would it ask to make a account to register the key.
I'm not sure you need an account to activate NIS, but they will need an account to use the online vault.

When you go to enter the key, it will ask for a Norton Account email and password. I'm not sure, but I think it will check the key to see if there is already an account related to it. If there is no account connected to the key, a new Norton Account would be set up. If there is, I would imagine there will be an error message.
If you try this, can you post back to let us know whether this is correct or not.
