Sorry to be a nuisance, but I rather concerned regarding docs which I am unable to recover from Cloud. To explain
In February my PC underwent a repair and prior to this I ensured all docs etc were uploaded to cloud. When the PC was returned a new HDD was fitted, although was NOT necessary.
Upon d/l from Cloud, there was an issue with MS office which has since been corrected.
I have since discovered some docs are missing despite the upload to Cloud.
Have spent some considerable time looking for missing docs by name in 7 segmenrs, to no avail. Each segment has a date indicating last upload, but despite searching the most obvious (25 Feb 24) and indeed the previous segment, I am unable to trace them.
The bottom line being I want to update spreadsheets etc as soon as possible, BUT… I would want to spend hours updating those I have found, in case they too disappear.
Please does anyone know a way around this.
Please note I am not a “techy type” just a basic user.
then make a copy it to a nother harddisk to be sure nothing happens a extern harddisk then nothing happens to you data i dont now how to get you date back from the Cloud becurse if you cant see the date it is hard to do maybe update the Cloud ore somthing like that maybe call norton to get help it is there Cloud
Hello devrod. So that we are on the same page, you are saying that previous backups do not have MS Office documents that you are sure you backed up, in the cloud backup?
And do you still have the hard drive that was removed? If so you have have a technician recover the missing files from the old HD as long at it will power up and its readable. Recover them to a USB drive then as a safety measure. Create a new backup to a removable drive such as another USB drive or portable hard drive.
hello SoulAsylum, Thank you for your interest.
In reply i would confirm the files which cannot be traced were originally created on MS Office Home and Student, and were subsequently updated on at least a monthly basis since 2018.
A recent search by Norton was unable to trace named files on the segment used prior to the removal of the HDD.
I was advised by the repair Company the HDD was scrapped in accordane with their T&C’s.
Oh wow!! The repair company SHOULD have returned that HD to you sir!! Period. Those files should have been recoverable, as you stated the HD replacement wasn’t required but done, I would assume, under their suggestions. As a repair tech, system builder that is standard with me… I return all parts removed and replaced to the customer.
My suggestion would be to download ALL your backup sets to a local hard drive or storage device and recover the entire contents of each. They don’t have to be restored to their original locations. They only need to be viewable on your part.
Going forward. In your backup settings under file types double check that office files are being backed up to cloud. Here is a guide in case you need it for reference.
Thank you for your response. The repairer based in the UK is supposed to be customer orientated, but sadly they don’t seem to know what they are doing.
Originally the PC was submitted for repair as the screen indicated there was an issue with the fan.
Upon return the same issue was indicated, but by that time the HDD had assumably been scrapped… Communicating with them is hopeless, and despite filing a complaint, their aim is to close the file, even after 6 months. In that time I have avoided updating or posting new docs in case they did the same again, so still lots to do when it is up and running correctly.
However, I very much appreciate your assistance and advice, and I have taken note of an external drive. Meanwhile I have created a hard copy of the info you provided.
