I'm using WinXP but I understand that background defragging is the default with Vista.  Doesn't that drive the Ghost users nuts or do they just learn how to turn that wonderous feature OFF?

Defrag in Vista is different.  Microsoft chose a more minimalist approach to defrag in Vista.  Any automatic background defragging in Vista should not be significant enough to cause a new base.

I'm using Ghost 10.

Does a defrag of a disk pretty much guarantee that Ghost will do, on the next backup, a full backup rather than an incremental?

That is, a defrag makes it look like lots of changes happened so a full backup is done?

Yes, there will be enough changes that a base will be created.  Unfortunately there isn't a work around as the image is sector based.
