I went to download the (stand alone) new version 17.6.0.32. On the download page was a suggestion to scan my computer to see what I should download, for the heck of it I ran it. It came back with; " you currently receive your Norton through your Service provider, please check with them about updates. So I contacted Netzero. I just got a response from them.
"Please note that the latest version Norton software providing
from NetZero is Norton 2010. You can check that on top of the Noeron CD cover.
If you do not have the latest CD, I am forwarding concerned department to ship you a new Cd and you will receive a response within 24 hours."
They sent me this Norton AntiVirus "Online" CD just a few months ago. They also are telling me to use the same pin number to activate the new CD. Doesn't each CD come with it's own pin #???
Once I get the new CD will I still have to update it to the new 17.6.0.32??? Can all of this be avoided by just downloading the stand alone version???? Or won't my ISP recognize it??? I assume that if I were to download it I can just burn a rescue CD????
I get a free paid subscription (full version) by being a 3G HiSpeed customer. It's my understanding that as long as I continue to have the 3G I will continue to receive Norton free. I thought it was kind of odd too that they would have switched and not said anything, but their Tech said that 2010 NIS is what they are now providing. What they gave me before was Norton Online. My currant version of that is a 16.8.0.41.
I did get some kind of massive update twice in the past couple of months. One was 78MB and the one the other night as 67MB, yet when I check the "about" it still says Norton AntiVirus Online.
I don't know of anyway to find out exactly what I was downloading do you???

I wonder if they are confusing you or it is merely that I am confused! lol
If they are no longer providing Norton Online but instead supplying NIS 2010 then you would need a product key to go along with the CD.
However, you do not actually need the CD (unless that is how they provide you with the product key) because the software can be downloaded from Symantec. I suggest you wait to see what arrives and if you are provided with product key and the terms of the license provided i.e. 3 PC 1 year, 5 PCs 2 years, 3 PC's 2 years, 1PC 1 Year.
Yes, to your last question but it really is not important since you clearly could only have obtained updates to the online version.
It will be interesting to hear what the other department has to say about shipping me a CD for "NIS2010" The product key was on the outside of the CD jacket, they called it a pin, maybe I better ask if it's the same thing.
Thanks
Could you provide some screenshots? Maybe of the main window and another of the About box? That will help us understand what you have installed.

Hello skooter62
According to NetZero's website, it looks like they charge you for their security program per month.

I just received another e-mail from Netzero Tech support. They are sending me a "new copy" of Norton Online????
You are right Netzero offers this as a paid subscription. For the 3 G Hispeed customers it is a free service. I have no clue what they are sending me, it looks like the same thing I already have. No, I don't know where my updates come from. They do run through "LiveUpdate" though, so I assumed it was coming from Symantec.
