Does Norton 360 Deluxe on a Macbook protect a VM Windows partition

I have a VMWare Fusion V 12.2.5 as a partition on my MacBook Pro.

Will Norton 360 Deluxe installed on my MacBook protect the VM or do I have to install it on the Windows Partition?

Thanks

Geoff

You must install it on the Windows VM partition as well to protect that OS.

Norton 360 Deluxe installed on your MacBook will primarily protect the macOS environment. If you’re running Windows inside a virtual machine (VM) β€” such as through Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion, or VirtualBox β€” that Windows installation functions as a separate operating system.

To protect the Windows VM, you should install Norton 360 (or another antivirus) inside the Windows virtual machine as well. This ensures real-time protection, 8339592808 malware scanning, and network security within the Windows environment, since threats inside the VM are not automatically detected by the macOS installation of Norton.

In short: Mac Norton protects macOS, and Windows Norton protects Windows β€” even when the Windows system runs in a VM.

Installing Norton 360 within a virtual machine will consume one license seat from your subscription total.

A virtual machine is treated as a separate, independent device for the purposes of Norton licensing. The Norton 360 Deluxe plan typically covers up to 5 devices, which can be a mix of PCs, Macs, smartphones, or tablets.

Here is how your seats are used in this scenario:

  • Your macOS host machine uses one seat.
  • Your Windows VM, which requires its own separate installation of the Norton software, uses a second seat.

You can manage which devices are using your licenses through your Norton account portal. This allows you to easily view available seats and transfer a license if necessary (for example, if you delete a VM or stop using it).
