I recently deleted a personal file directory. It can't be recovered from the recycled bin. Luckily for me, the files are located at the back of my hard drive and are perfectly defragmented. I'm using Norton's old Dos-based "Disk Editor" to repair the damage. Unfortunately it seems that I have to manually edit the FAT one allocation unit at a time. In other words I have to type 15,917 15,918 15,919 ..... 16,102 <EOF>. I don't have the help files for this Norton program, so I don't know if there's a shortcut or a hot-key.
If there is no shortcut or hotkey which automatically inserts the next number, is it then possible to link a contiguous series of clusters to a file in the exact same spot? (Alt-W will write it elsewhere on the disk.)
Thank you.
