I searched the internet looking for security software to protect my daughters from viewing inappropriate web site content. In doing so I came across Norton Safety Minder that claimed it was free to try. After spending time to download I was confronted with a message that stated my present version of Norton Software was incompatible with the safety minder software and that I needed to upgrade my software. So, I logged onto Norton's site and proceeded to upgrade my internet security 2007 software to the latest Norton 360 version at a cost of $60. After waiting hours for the software to remove my old version and then after multiple reboots the new software that I purchased installed and now I've completed the upgrade to Norton's latest product. However, to no avail, as soon as I lauched the safety minder.exe file, I get the same message that I started with, namely, safetyminder can't install because I don't have the latest version of software and I need to upgrade.
What is up with this? Is this a scam? Bottom line, I want to know what I need to do to get the SafetyMinder software up and running or should I think otherwise because I'm beginning to think that Norton is not everything it is hyped up to be?

Thank you for your reply. My PC came from HP with a product called Norton Go Back to support a PC failure and I also installed version 9.0 of Ghost to image my hard drive. I think these are the only two other products left behind on my PC.
Attached below is a copy of my registry entries you suggested I looked at. As you will see within the registry export, other products appear there and I thought they would have been removed from my latest upgrade to Norton 360.
I also attached a copy of the error message that I'm getting after trying to install the SafetyMinder.exe file. I had to send you the file as a txt to get it to you. Please rename the txt extension to jpg and you should be able to see the error message that I'm getting.
Any assistance you can offer to get me setup with the safetyminder software would be appreciated.
Thanks again.
